Helambu cultural trek is a well-known trekking area located in the Langtang region that is favored by trekkers for its stunning scenery and pleasant climate. Situated around 75 kilometers to the northeast of the Kathmandu Valley, this trek extends from the northern part of Tara Marang to the tree line of the Gosainkunda Lake and the lower slopes of the Jugal Himal. To begin the trek, one starts from Kathmandu and heads to Sundarijal, and the trek ends at Malemchi Pul before driving back to Kathmandu. The area is home to Tamang and Sherpa people, with villages spread out on both sides of the Malemchi Khola.
This trek is one of the easier ones and begins from the northern part of Kathmandu city. The area's appeal lies in its diverse socio-cultural and natural aspects, making it an ideal adventure for families that can be enjoyed all year round. Helambu, located at mid-elevation in the southern buffer of the Langtang National Park, serves as a center for studying Tibetan Buddhism. The Yolmo and Tamang peoples have a rich cultural heritage, and their celebrations, lively dances, and hospitality are accompanied by their unique rituals and traditions.
Day 01: Kathmandu.
Upon your arrival, our representative will greet you at the Tribhuwan International Airport holding Placard with your name on it and will transfer you to the hotel. Rest of the day is free for your personal activities. Overnight at Kathmandu.
Day 02: Kathmandu – Sundarijal - Chisapani 2,300 m – 04hrs. (B/L/D)
Trip begins with a drive on suburb of Kathmandu valley to Sundarijal situated about 15 kilometers North East from valley, the driving journey is about one hour. From Sundarijal start the first day Trek of this wonderful trip towards our overnight stop at Chisopani, the walk leads uphill passing several farms and villages and through pristine forest into Shivapuri National Park then reaching at ridge top with scenery of Kathmandu valley, then a short downhill to the scenic Chisopani village, which is nestled on route Langtang and Helambu with majestic views of sunrise on the snow capped peaks from Langtang-Ganesh Himal Jugal Himal and west Annapurna-Manaslu and Gaurishanker in the eastern horizon.
Day 03: Chisapani - Kutumsang 2,446 m -06 hrs. (B/L/D)
This day wonderful journey will be a longer walking distance to Kutumsang village, the trek follows descending to Pati Bhanjyang, a Hindu Brahman and Chhetris village, from here walk climbs then with downhill reaching to another nice Chipplin village, then with an uphill walk through Thodog Lama Lodge to Kutumsang village for overnight .
Day 04: Kutumsang - Tharepati 3,650 m- 05 hrs. (B/L/D)
Morning walk climbs to Yurin Danda ridge from Kutumsnag and crossing a pass at 3,510 meter before descending to the forested area, the trail passes through rhododendron forests and few small settlements till Tharepati is reached for overnight , Tharepati the highest point of this trek offering stunning views of rolling landscapes and high mountains of Langtang and Jugal mountain range.
Day 05: Tharepati - Malemchigaoun 2,560 m – 05 hrs. (B/L/D)
Trekking trial climbs to a ridge top with fabulous view of Jugal Himal range, then walking further on the downhill path to reach Melamchi Khola, crossing the river and with a short climb to Malemchegaon for overnight stop, a traditional Sherpa and Yolmo’s village of Buddhist religion with Tamang tribes. Houses are decorated with nice intricate carving on wooden doors and windows.
Day 06:Malemchigaoun - Tarke Gyang 2,590 m – 05 hours. (B/L/D)
After this village the trail leads downhill to Melamchi River then crossing a bridge over with a climb then reaching at Tarkeghyang village via Nakote village, with time for a visit the oldest Buddhist monasteries, Ama Yangri on the top of the village, overnight at Tarke Gyang.
Day 07: Explore Tarke Gyang Village. (B/L/D)
An interesting mid hills village inhabited by the Yolmo ( Hyalmo) tribes a descendent from Tibetan tribe a cross between Tamang and Sherpa clans, they follows the same religion and rituals as Sherpa and Tamang tribe of people, at Tarke Gyang. Visit the old monasteries nice villagers and interact with them.
Day 08: Tarke Gyang - Sermathang 2,610 m – 04 hours. (B/L/D)
Trekking leads on the gradual trail towards beautiful forests marveling the surrounding views villages of this Helambu region, walk passes many Buddhist monuments, chortens and on the meadows to reach a small village of Gangyul, follow the walk with marvelous views of rolling hills to Sherma thang, another pleasant Yolmo village for overnight with time for to explore its old monastery.
Day 09: Sermathang - Malemchipul 1,100 meters – 04 hrs (B/L/D)
Final Trekking day of this wonderful journey leads downhill, towards flat land till it reaches stupa and a statue of Guru Padmasamvaba then walking downhill into pine forest to Kakani village. Trekking continues with a descend to Duba chaur and then walking further bridge over Melamchi Khola, and finally ending this nice Trekking at Melamchipul, which is a busy bazaar and a warm area transfer to the best lodge available and explore the market area.
Day 10: Malemchipul - Kathmandu – 04 hrs journey. (B)
Concluding this fabulous journey with fours drive through the town of Dhulikhel and Banepa and then finally to Kathmandu, after a most remarkable journey in the high hills of Central Himalaya.
