Mustang trekking in Nepal offers a unique opportunity to explore the preserved traditional Tibetan culture in its authentic form. Upper Mustang is a remote region in the Himalayan desert, bordering with Tibet, and until 1992, foreigners were not allowed to enter. The region is inhabited by people of Tibetan origin who practice the Sakyapa school of Tibetan Buddhism. The capital of Upper Mustang, Lo Manthang, is a medieval settlement with a walled complex, and the people grow potatoes, buckwheat, and barley. The Mustang trekking takes visitors to antique Tibetan villages, rare medieval Buddhist arts, and unique stratified rock formations. Recently, invaluable objects of cultural and historical importance were discovered in Upper Mustang caves.
